Killer Whale (Orca) seen on Weekend Explorer 4th September 2004

We are on a 2-day weekend explorer at the moment, sailing north of Mull. A few moments ago I got a call on the radio from my brother Brennen, who is looking for wildlife nearby us. The message I got went something like this… "with killer whale just 2 miles south of your position, wow, quick,… " and then he cut out!

So we have just spent the last two hours with two of the most incredible creatures I have ever seen. There is a large male and a female. The male is John Coe, an alpha male that I remember seeing as a kid with my dad, and we have not seen him in these waters for over three years We had presumed he was infact dead because we saw the pod he used to be part of last year, and he was not there. So very very exciting to see him again, we have some great photos, and a video of today. Both of them where beside us at one point and as they dived their tails came right out of the water and they did a tail slap, throwing their tails down on the water making a loud ’cracking’ noise.
